Elwyn
has been writing poetry ever since she can remember, although not that much recently. Her work has
appeared in local literary publications as well as in Dreams
of Decadence, New Moon Rising, Green Egg, and the anthologies
Lower Than the Angels (Lite Circle Books, 1999), Through
A Glass Darkly (Lite Circle Books, 2003), and No
Longer Dreams (Lite Circle Books, 2005). She co-edited a Star
Trek fanzine, The Off-World Connection, has written
a Star Trek/M*A*S*H cross-universe novella, and once made a very large,
overstuffed tribble that grew up to be a cat scratching-post.
She has a photo
site
(for fun) on flickr, and in collaboration with her friend
John designed a 2009 photo calendar featuring their photos as a holiday
present for family and friends. (Yes, they will do it again). Her photos have appeared in
the
last
three Johns Hopkins
Federal Credit Union calendars; the 2007 and 2008 Pennsylvania Travel Guide; a
book of poetry, Handprint on the Window, by Dan
Cuddy (Three Conditions Press, November 2003); the literary journal Manorborn 2007, published by the Harford Poetry and Literary Society; the anthology The Gunpowder Review 2009, Gunpowder Branch, National League of American Pen Women; and other places.
Her
alter ego has worked at various jobs in order to feed two hungry cats.
She has a B.A. in English and Mass Communications from Towson
University and has taken photography classes at MICA (Maryland
Institute College of Art.) Her husband claims that if she were a
character in the movie Mystery Men, she would be
"The Snapper."
In
addition to annoying people with her camera and writing poetry,
Elwyn's interests include SF/fantasy, women's
spirituality, computers, and jewelry-making. She is involved with Turning Circle,
an eclectic pagan spiritualality circle, and the Baltimore Science Fiction Society,
who hosts Baltimore's annual premier science fiction convention, Balticon. She previously worked with The Lite Circle,
a non-profit literary organization based in Central Maryland (now on
hiatus).
A
Baltimore native, she lives in Roland Park with her husband, 2 cats,
and a bunch of fish, all surrounded by as many plants as will cram into
a condominium. She spends way too much time in front of a computer and
has nearly perfected the art of typing around a cat. The newest piece of furniture in her apartment is a 6-foot tall kitty
condo/scratching post (the "kitty
treehouse"). She needed a replacement for the 5-foot tribble that was destroyed by previous cats years ago.
Some
might think the name "Elwyn" was inspired by a character in an ongoing
(unfortunately unfinished) fantasy novella and a short-lived
D&D adventure, but insiders know that it was really
the other way around.
